Time to sell myself...
Teachers do a fantastic job, but lessons move fast, and it’s completely normal for students to have a few gaps or areas they’re not fully confident with yet. That’s where I come in. My tutoring is all about spotting those cracks and filling them in.
I’m very patient (genuinely). I want students to feel relaxed enough to ask the questions they think are “silly” — because those are usually the important ones. Confidence comes first; progress follows.
My approach depends on the student. Whether they’re sitting around E/D or C and want to push for a higher grade, or striving for that A/A*. Learning needs to work for them. If one method doesn’t click, we try another. I teach the student, not just the syllabus.
I’ve taught Psychology A-Level for 25+ years (so yes, I’ve seen a few things…). I’ve been Head of Psychology, an examiner, and an author of A-Level Psychology materials. After marking and teaching literally thousands of students, I can now spot the exact points where students go wrong — almost before they do. Their thought patterns are surprisingly predictable. This means I can help students avoid the usual pitfalls, whether in knowledge or exam skills.
Knowing the difference between “Outline and evaluate” and “Discuss” in AQA A-Level Psychology can completely change the way a student structures an essay. Then there are the comparison questions — whether it’s comparing approaches or comparing topics — where many students lose marks simply because they aren’t clear on what AQA is actually looking for.
This is where I come in. I teach the practical “exam hacks” that make the difference — like an easy way to tell nominal from ordinal data, or how to make answers more applied and contextualised in Research Methods and Application questions (which AQA love to test).
It’s all those small, strategic adjustments that quietly push grades up.
And yes — after 25 years teaching and examining AQA Psychology, I really do know the shortcuts.
